AMD inside? Dell finds new chipset inspirations for its Inspiron range
TAIPEI -- Dell is once again offering customers the choice between AMD and Intel processors. Here at Computex 2015, the computer giant revealed an extensive new lineup of products in its Inspiron range, including new laptops in the 5000 and 7000 series, new all-in-one PCs and a tiny new desktop module.
It's the Inspiron 5000 laptop range, with 14-, 15- and 17-inch displays, that now comes with the option of Intel or AMD chips. The AMD models will feature the brand new A series, codenamed Carrizo, while the Intel chips will be the Braswell line. The 15-inch and 17-inch versions also have an optional Full HD touchscreen, with a lower resolution version for the 14-inch and the 15 as well. The 5000 ranges starts from $449 or AU$699, with UK prices yet to be announced.
Dell is also offering the AMD or Intel choice with its new all-in-one Inspiron 3000 line. The Inspiron 24 comes with either AMD Carrizo or Intel Braswell and has a 23.4-inch Full HD display. The smaller size Inspiron 20 has a lower resolution 19.5-inch screen and doesn't offer the AMD chip. You'll pay $449 for the base Inspiron 24 and $329 for the 20 -- no Australian or UK pricing is available at the moment.
The AMD love affair continues into the new Inspiron Desktop (from $279) while the Inspiron Small and Micro Desktops will have Intel processors.
It's been a while since Dell used AMD processors, after the company phased out older ranges that did feature the chips. The Carrizo series is said to have a vastly improved battery life over the company's older A series, as well as better graphics performance.
The Inspiron 15 7000 doesn't come with AMD, but the Intel Core i7-running 15-inch laptop also comes in a two-in-one version that folds through laptop, tablet, tent and stand modes. The two-in-one gets an 8 hour 54 minute battery life but still manages a sub-20mm form factor. It's available from June 23 for $550 -- no call on pricing or dates for other regions.
The regular laptop version of the Inspiron 15 7000 is going on sale in China on August 7 for 5,999 yuan. No pricing or availability information has been made available for other regions, but Dell has confirmed that it will be available in Australia "later this year" (the Chinese price converts to AU$1,245).
